We are looking forward to a very fun and exciting summer with grade 6A. We are Dan and Riley. This will be Riley’s first year working at GSRP, and she is very excited to meet all the kids and be apart of grade 6A. Riley will be attending UNH in the fall and will be on the cross country team there. Dan will be beginning his fourth year at GSRP and can’t wait to see what this summer brings. Dan just graduated from Quinnipiac University in May and will be returning there for graduate school in the fall.
Day 1 was filled with lots of fun and excitement. The first thing we did was get to know each other and make some group rules to make sure everyone can enjoy their time at camp. As a group we came up with three rules: 1. No name calling, 2. Keep your hands to yourself and 3. The “Golden Rule” which is to treat others the way you want to be treated.
We have a very busy and fun schedule planned for each day of the week. On Monday, G6A kicked it off with an intense and exciting game of soccer, which came down to a penalty kick at the last second! Later in the afternoon, we played
capture the flag, and G6A was able to beat the other sixth grade group, 6B.
On Tuesday, we began the day with arts and crafts, where we did a weaving activity. The kids were able to make cool designs, and we found that we have some very creative and artistic kids in the group. Among the most creative projects
were: Kasey, Erin, Gavin and Adam. Later in the day, we played hockey, ultimate Frisbee, and dodge ball which the kids loved.
The highlight of Wednesday was dodge ball where we played campers vs. counselors and CITs. The campers showed off their dodge ball skills by winning four games while the counselors and CITs only won two games. The counselors and CITs hope to change that by the end of the summer. Wednesday concluded with a concert by Coda Sky, where the kids got to listen and dance to the band. Afterwards the kids were able to meet the band members and get their autographs.
Thursday was the day of the long awaited first field trip to Old Orchard Beach to watch the Raging Tide play an exciting baseball game. The Raging Tide threw out some baseballs and signed autographs which the kids enjoyed. Overall, it was a fun field trip, and we are looking forward to our field trip next week to Chunky’s to see the movie How to Train Dragon 2!
