Grade 2 is having a great time at camp so far! Nolan and Allison are both very excited to see what the rest of summer will bring. Despite the hot weather, the kids have been making the most of their time at camp with great attitudes. We feel lucky to have the second graders because we are already familiar with the younger children. Last summer, Allison was the second grade counselor and Nolan was the first grade counselor. This is both Allison's and Nolan’s second summer here at GSRP.
Allison graduated from Haverhill High School this year and Nolan graduated from Pentucket High School. Both of us are involved in many sports and activities, and we love to bring our energy to camp every day to play with the kids! Nolan also works at Bagnall’s after school program, and he is already familiar with many of the campers. Allison has always loved working with kids, and she also enjoy helping her Mom in her first grade classroom during the school year. We have been anxiously awaiting summer camp all year. Something very special about our camp is how close the staff is. Not only are we together all summer, but we also stay connected during the year when we are not at camp. This helps us to work better together and makes a better summer for our campers!
On the first day of camp, our group discussed the main rules that we need to follow in order to have an enjoyable summer. Our first rule was to be kind and respectful to everyone. We also discussed ways we can stay safe, especially by listening to the directions of the counselors. We made sure our kids know that our main goal is to make their summer fun! We have noticed that the popular activity outside so far is soccer. The kids love to play, and we love seeing their teamwork! Our second graders also seem to enjoy the art room. We have had Miss Brackett twice so far this summer and the kids are excited to go back again. They are so creative! In art class, we made lady bugs out of paper plates and colored them in with colored markers!
Although we have only been in camp for a few days, we can tell this summer is going to be great for us and our campers. We want our campers to always be excited to come to camp every day. We look forward to working
with all of the children and learning more about them as the summer progresses!
