Week five has been G5’s best week yet! Monday, we started off the week in arts and crafts, where some of the kids made owls out of paper bags! Later in the week, the kids had an awesome time tye-dying shirts with Mrs. Stevens. In project enrichment with Ms. Lynch, the kids all made mini catapults out of things like spoons, Popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and water bottles. At the end of the block, there was competition to see whose catapult could fling a tinfoil ball the farthest, and CIT Amelia O’Brien’s catapult was the best!
On Wednesday, G5 made tinfoil towns and Jeff, Jenna, and Haylee were impressed with Kalli Dagas, who made a miniature Groveland with the tinfoil.
The grade 5 campers have also been enjoying playing kickball outside. On Tuesday, Grade 5 had a blast playing miniature golf and laser tag at the Merrimac Valley Pavilion, where new camper Matty Mendez made three holes in one on the golf course.
This week, we had two special show, starting on Monday with Mathew Roberts the magician, who amazed us all with his mind reading Goldfish cracker Hercules and his levitating table. Then on Thursday, we had two rock miners come in and show the kids how to safely search for and identify minerals, and they each got to take home a goody bag filled with five different types of rocks!! G5 was very lucky this week because we got to go to the computer lab three times to get away from the heat outside. For hot lunch this week the kids enjoyed some delicious meatball subs with potato chips and juice boxes, and on Friday after a fun-filled morning of swimming came back to camp and got to stop at the ice cream cart!
As we head in to week 6, the G5 counselors would just like to remind everyone to always bring a water bottle to camp with them!!!!!!!!! It is very important for the kids to stay hydrated during these hot days so we can all have a fun and safe rest of our summer. Next week is our mountain field trip and we are all so excited for that and for the rest of whatever week 6 brings!
