As we approach our fifth week of camp, some bittersweet feelings have begun to spread throughout the campers of 6th grade. It is unbelievable to think we are more than half way done with summer camp. However, although the summer is winding down, the excitement is not. Week 4 ended with yet another great trip to the Haverhill High School pool. Jeremy and Carolyn decided after this second showing at the pool that “The 6th Grade Squad” should really be “The 6th Grade fish.” The majority of the squad took on the diving board yet again, becoming true masters of everything from flips to the infamous pencil dive. While his friends took on the diving board, Patrick Sainato got creative, starting a game of volleyball using the overhead line of flags. The game was a hit, and when the 6th graders took on the younger members of camp, the squad was victorious. 6th grade was able to work as one team, with one goal, and left that pool with victory in their heads, and pride in their hearts. Returning camp, they also had their chance at the ice cream cart, another one of the fun Friday activities. Sydney Wolbach is always especially fond of this occasion, as she was one out of only four in the entire camp to win free ice cream for the summer in the gift card giveaway a couple weeks back. After a long and exciting week, ice cream was exactly what the squad needed.
With such a fun week four, the campers were wondering if the week could truly be beat. However, Monday afternoon of week five brought the amazing, first ever, live magic show! With the brains of squad members like Owen Raftery and Aidan Wilhite, Jermey and Carolyn were wondering if their campers would really believe the illusions that would be shown. However, it didn’t take long to find that this magic was the real deal. The squad had countless “oohs” and “ahhs” and even a few chuckles throughout the incredible show.
The next day we headed to Tewksbury on a journey to MVP aka Merrimack Valley Pavilion. Initially, the squad was struck with the incredible heat and water was all they were striving for. However, when Danny Hileman saw this place he exclaimed, “Woah this is awesome!” This same excitement ran throughout the group, and they were all excited to take on the many activities they had in store. MVP had five different activities that each group would rotate to over the course of the day. The 6th graders got their chance at the prestigious mini golf course, a treacherous rope course, intense laser tag, and an essential ice cream/pizza/arcade break. Out on the golf course, Brandon Lee proved to be a remarkable player. With four holes in one in just 6 holes of mini golf, it’s safe to say he left as the MVP of MVP. The Squad is already having so much fun, and we can’t wait for all the excitement that has yet to come.
