“Defeat should never be a source of discouragement but rather a fresh stimulus.” The constant battle between grade 6 and 7 never seems to end here at GSRP, especially after the tough loss the 6th Grade Squad suffered in a game of soccer. “This only made us stronger,” said Owen Raftery, keeping in mind the many opportunities week 6 would offer to gain back their superiority at GSRP. Week 6 is by far one of the favorite weeks of the entire summer. Not only does week 6 bring the beloved Hockey Tournament, but the all-day excursion to Cranmore Mountain is something that the campers have been waiting all year for. On Monday, grade 6 got the pleasure of watching Curious Creatures put on a show in the gym consisting of all different kinds of animals and reptiles. Cam Evans could not keep his hand down as he kept throwing out questions to the speaker that half of GSRP was also thinking about. As the week went on, the 6th Grade Squad decided to mix things up as they went out front after lunch one day. Rather than battle on the pavement in a usual hockey game, the Squad played the infamous “fishy fishy cross my ocean.” A game that requires both a physical and mental toughness, it was a hit. Jess Cooney found this game to be one of her favorites, suggesting that this now becomes a regular activity for Grade 6.
On Monday’s lunch, CIT Jared McIntosh helped fellow camper Payton Walsh by giving her part of his lunch after hers spilled all over the floor. That’s just how the kids from Grade 6 roll, always there to help each other. Chinese food is another thing that campers could not wait to get their hands on during Wednesday’s lunch. “Easily the best hot lunch of the year!” said camper Evan Applebaum. Last but certainly not least, a handful of campers from grade 6 decided to perform a song during their time in activity room with fake guitars that they titled “Donuts”. Both Jeremy and Carolyn suggested that if they performed this song in the upcoming talent show, there would be standing ovation within the crowd.
