As we approach the final days here at GSRP, a bittersweet feeling has overwhelmed the campers in 6th grade. Arguably the best week of camp, week 7 brings endless fun and excitement, but at the same time, the squad is having a hard time coming to terms with the end of such a fun summer.
To end week 6, GSRP loaded up 4 coach buses equipped with reclining seats, overhead lighting and fans, and Nick Salvi’s favorite, a bathroom. These buses took grade 6 all the way up to Cranmore Mountain which was a long 2 and a half hour ride, but according to Ryan Pfifferling it was well worth it. To start off the day, the squad took on the daunting ropes course. With difficulty ranging from green triangle all the way to the black diamond, the campers were truly put to the test as they made their way through the trees. Garrett Grafton proved to be a true mountaineer, mastering not one, but three different courses in a matter of two hours, a truly remarkable achievement.
After they had mastered the courses, the squad made their way to the infamous mountain coaster, a crowd favorite from years past. Ben Castle and Jacob Wright showed no fear as they plummeted down the mountain going full speed, something that even the counselors were afraid to try.
As week 6 came to an end, the campers of GSRP knew they had to wait all weekend for the bonus field trip which was to be announced that following Monday. Both Derek Tardy and CJ Condon sprung out of their seats as they heard it was Joe's Playland, a local arcade located in Salisbury, MA. This was going to be the 3rd arcade GSRP would conquer this summer, and the squad was more than ready. Owen Raftery said “practice makes perfect” after counselor Jeremy asked him how he managed to score 1,021 tickets in a matter of 2 hours. Connor Flynn Also showed off his talents as he got 10 high scores in the game Piano Tiles. Tuesday night opened both 6th grade counselors eyes to something extraordinary, the dance moves of Danny Hileman.
