Bryanna and Ryan are thrilled to be here at GSRP! This is Bryanna's second year as a counselor, and it is also her second year with grade seven! During the school year, she works at the Before and After School Program at the Page School and attends Salem State. She will graduate next year with a major in English and a minor in secondary education and hopes to be a high school English teacher. Ryan has worked at GSRP for 5 years and is going to the University of Maine in Augusta. In school, he is studying marine biology and works at the Longhorn outside of camp.
This week has been filled with fun and new experiences for all of our campers! On the first day of camp, we played a game called "Where the Cold Wind Blows" in which they learned interesting facts about one another. Perhaps one of the biggest hits with grade seven was water games on Tuesday. When we told the campers they needed to get changed into their bathing suits for water games, they all groaned and complained. However, everything changed when we walked outside. Bryanna brought campers to the waterslide while Ryan began his own version of The Hunger Games with squirt guns and sponges. The seventh graders lit up and quickly stopped their groaning and starting smiling. The next day, the campers were begging us to go out to water games! We hope they continue to be eager to go to this activity; it's the best way to cool off on a hot summer day!
In addition to water games, our campers have also enjoyed their time in Project Enrichment. On Wednesday during Project Enrichment, we got to make our very own bouncy balls! The kids mixed several ingredients together in order to create their projects. then came the fun part: adding food coloring and glitter! Campers could add as much or as little as they wanted in order to make their projects unique. By the end of the project, the campers' hands were covered in goop and stained with food coloring, but they couldn't stop smiling.
Perhaps our most interesting day of camp was Thursday at the Raging Tide baseball game. After we arrived to the stadium, campers enjoyed purchasing snacks and getting autographs from the players. They were also thrilled to get high-fives from the team mascot! Week one at GSRP has certainly been a wonderful one for us counselors. We have shared a lot of laughs and have had a lot of fun getting to know your children. We hope that our campers have been having as much fun as we have everyday, and we cannot wait to see what the rest of the summer brings!
