Hello! Hope everyone had a wonderful week. This week was one of GSRP’s busiest weeks thus far with two field trips!
On Monday we had a little bit of rain, but that did not stop the G6A Oompa Loompas! We played some hockey and an intense game of ultimate knock out. Also, "Amoeba Tag" is becoming a new favorite game in the group.
Tuesday was our first trip, where we went to Salem Willows for some fun at the arcades and drive the bumper cars. Campers started to win games and jackpots almost instantly and began trading tickets in for awesome prizes. Many of our campers got candy while others got hats, balls, and an inflatable bat. After lunch, the kids were able to go on the bumper cars, which they all enjoyed.
On Thursday, we went on the whale watch! The kids were very excited when they saw the whales. After cruising out into the ocean, we saw our first whale, which was a Fin Whale. The Fin Whale is one of the larger whales in the area (second largest in the world only to the massive Blue Whale!), and it was cool to see. However, the whale that stole the show was the Humpback Whale. This whale seemed to love our boat. He was always around our boat, and the kids raced to whatever side he would show up on. This humpback loved showing off his tail, rolling over, and “peeking” which is the whale coming up vertically to see what is on the surface. On the way back into shore, we were lucky to see a Minke Whale! So in total, we were able to see three species of whales, and we also saw some harbor seals.
The kids had a blast last week, and we cannot wait to see what is coming up for the rest of the summer. Remember this week is the baseball tournament, so if you interested in playing, be sure to bring your glove!
