Day 4 already and summer camp is flying by! Grade 5 has been having an awesome time. Jeremy and Jenna are pumped to be with the fifth graders. We have been having a blast with sports and games, project enrichment, activity room, computer lab, water games, and many other fun activities. We were especially excited after water games on day 2 because everyone participated and had a great time. It was pretty hot and all the kids agreed that it was a good idea to get wet at water games.
Both of us have been having just as much fun as the kids here at GSRP. This is the second year for Jeremy and the fourth year for Jenna. Jeremy is going to be a senior at Pentucket Regional High School, and Jenna is going to be a sophomore at Westfield State University. In his spare time, Jeremy enjoys playing hockey, lacrosse, and running cross country. After high school, he has big plans for college and is also interested in travelling internationally. Whether it is cold or warm, Jeremy enjoys the outdoors. He also wants to show the campers that they can enjoy the outdoors as well. Having fifth grade for the second time, he knows what to expect and has a great time with the kids.
Jenna enjoys going to the beach, being outside as much as possible, hanging out with friends, playing a bunch of sports, and she especially enjoys spending her summers here at GSRP. Jenna hopes to study abroad for a semester in college, and travel even more after college. This year at camp is very exciting for Jenna because her first year here she had the fifth graders as second graders! Lots of familiar faces are always a good thing, and there are also many new faces which Jenna loves to see!
On day one of camp, the fifth graders all worked together to come up with three group rules that we will follow for the entire summer. Each camper said a rule that they thought we should follow and at the end we agreed that our three rules are 1) Be kind and be respectful, 2) include each other in games and activities and 3) HAVE FUN!! In the morning of every day, we go over the rules so that each camper can have the best time possible.
One really cool experiment we did in Project Enrichment was when we made a mixture of corn starch and water, or also known as Oobleck. This mysterious substance works as both a solid and a liquid! The kids had fun taking turns stirring it and adding food coloring to make pretty colors. G5 did an especially good job following directions and cleaning the
tables, seeing as we made a huge mess, but as a reward for their good behavior they all received tootsie rolls, which was a big hit.
The summer has been pretty hot so far, so we want to make sure we wear our sunscreen and stay hydrated throughout the day. Also, Friday we have theme day, so everyone needs to wear as many PURPLE articles of clothing as possible!! Grade 5 is starting off on a very positive note and we are excited to see what the rest of the summer will bring!
