Week Four at GSRP was a one to remember for the Grade Five Swagalicious Penguins. With a field trip on Tuesday and Thursday, all the campers were excited to be back at camp. As always, Grade Five is constantly welcoming new campers, and this was going to be a great week for many. On Tuesday, we got on a bus and drove to the Salem Willows, a great spot for the kids to play arcade games and drive bumper cars. Right when we got to the arcade, there were already a bunch of winners. Evan A. hit big with the monster jackpot on one game scoring 181 tickets. Instantly, Jeremy and Jenna knew this was going to be an exciting day. Although there were many games where the kids could use their tokens to score tickets, there were also many that were played just for the fun of it. There were motorcycle games and snowmobile games, where the grade five CIT’s and campers would have intense battles, trying to get the fastest time. Also there was a whiffle ball batting cage inside the arcade, where many campers would use there tokens and be able to hit 10 balls, and they always come out with a smile on their faces. After a quick break for pizza, the campers also got to enjoy the bumper cars--something that many of them had never done before.
Although we did get a little rain in the middle of the week, this didn’t stop the campers from having a blast outside. With water games and outdoor games back to back on the schedule, the kids learned to have fun while playing in the rain. Playing basketball in the rain was also something Grade Five loved, and it made the game of knockout even more competitive.
This week also included a whale watch--something everyone at camp was very eager to go on. After Grade Five boarded the Captain's Lady III, everyone was so excited to see all sorts of different marine wildlife. Right away, Grade Five spotted a seal floating in Salisbury, and then they couldn’t wait for the rest of the trip. As the Captain's Lady III went further out into the ocean, Grade five was able to spot some whales. Two Humpback whales came above the surface on both sides of the boat. Everyone was so excited and happy to see these whales swim throughout the water. There was even a time where the whales rolled over and looked as if they were waving to everyone on the boat! All in all, it was a great day on the ocean for Grade Five.
With week four coming to an end, we hope to see many of the same faces from the previous weeks. With only a few weeks left of summer camp, Grade Five is looking forward to many events like the baseball and hockey tournaments. There are also many more exciting field trips along the way. The Grade Five Swagalicious Penguins are hoping to carry their excitement into week five!
