We are the grade 6B counselors, we are looking forward to a great 7 weeks at GSRP! Ryan has worked at GSP for 4 summers now, and this is Amanda's first year. We both graduated from college in May and are looking forward to spending the summer with your sixth graders!
Everyone was very excited to be at camp on Monday! During our first day of camp, we all got to know each other as there were some new faces as well as some veteran campers. As a group, we came up with three rules for the summer; 1) use your head, 2) always listen, and 3) keep your hands and feet to yourself. We also came up with consequences as a group for not remembering the rules. We decided the consequences would be 1) a warning, 2) sit out for 5 minutes, and 3) sit out for the whole block or go see Mr C. So far we have all done an excellent job of following along with these rules!
Our days have been very busy in group 6B! In art, we have started weaving flowers, and in the project room, we did an experiment with salt and pepper and made our own bouncy balls. In the computer lab, we set some high scores on a variety of computer games. 6B was also the first group that was able to play in the game room this summer! We got to play bean bag toss, foosball, ladder ball, ping pong, air hockey, board games and more! We have also spent a lot of time outside so far. Even though it has been a little warm, we have been playing and learning a lot of new fun games in gym!
The kids have also gotten a few fun treats at camp so far this week! On Tuesday, the campers had the option of cooling off with some ice cream and on Wednesday, the kids had the option to get a delicious hot lunch pizza. GSRP also had a special surprise in store for the kids on Wednesday...a concert by Coda Sky to end the day! The kids seemed to really enjoy singing and dancing along with the live performance. They even got the chance after the concert to take a picture with the band and get autographs.
We were very excited for our field trip to Old Orchard Beach in Maine as well! The kids had a great time watching the Raging Tide baseball team! Today will be another fun day as the kids get to go swimming, and for next week, swimming is on Monday so please remember to have your child bring a towel and bathing suit.
This has been a fun filled first week at camp, and we can't wait for all of the great activities we will be doing all summer with group 6B!
