"My favorite part about this week was when the baseball tournament started and I can't wait until the hockey tournament starts." As Colin said, the baseball tournament started this week, where many campers participated in, including our counselor Cam, who coached his team to the finals. A special congratulations to Haley Mitchell from our group who kept a positive smile after being hit with a baseball twice during her game. What a trooper! Continuing with our baseball theme, GSRP enjoyed a wonderful day at the Spinners game, where 4B was lucky enough to sit in the front row while enjoying a hot dog lunch, and other tasty treats! Counselors Cam and Riley also want to commend our group for having such a solid participation in Superhero Theme Day, we love the enthusiasm and 4B!!!
The campers of 4B had another awesome week at summer camp! On Monday, we had an absolutely packed day of fun! This included a morning of swimming in the pool, followed by a quick lunch and then we got to enjoy a special celebrity concert, where we sang and danced along with Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson. What a treat! "We got to stand up and dance with Taylor Swift to Shake It Off and 22, it was really fun!" said camper Colin Walsh

Week four has been a baseball-filled week for Grade 5! On Wednesday we had a blast at a Lowell Spinners game, where the campers enjoyed hot dogs and got cool foam fingers to take home. The GSRP baseball tournament kicked off on Tuesday, with G5 counselors Haylee and Jeff each coaching a team and a whole bunch of G5 boys participating. The championship game is this Friday and Grade 5 can’t wait to cheer on both teams and congratulate whoever wins!
In project enrichment this week, the kids made mini-cupcake explosions using vinegar and baking soda, and on Thursday got make their own delicious ice cream, which was a nice break from the heat outside. Lately, Grade 5 has loved making bead designs in arts and crafts, and Jeff has been teaching everyone how to make friendship bracelets using string. On Thursday, the kids enjoyed a hot lunch of pizza and were given ice pops as a surprise. Joe Turpin looked great dressed as Captain America for superhero day, and Jane Rizzo made her own costume to dress as The Flash for this week’s theme day . With the temperatures seeming to get higher each day as we get into August, Grade 5 counselors Jenna, Haylee, and Jeff just want to remind everyone to always bring a water bottle to camp, and also always to have a bathing suit and towel just in case there is a bonus water games block to beat the heat! Camp is halfway over but Grade 5 is so excited to see what the second half of the summer brings! Time is flying by at GSRP, as we have officially reached the halfway point of the summer! The past few weeks have been filled with so much fun and excitement, it’s hard to believe how fast it has gone by! However, the halfway point in summer camp also brings some of the most fun. Week 3 ended with what Sydney Wolbach claims to be “The best field trip in GSRP history!!” The 6th grade squad boarded the bus last Thursday, ready to embark on the trip to Woburn MA to visit one of the greatest arcades in America, Dave and Buster's. With veteran gamers like Garrett Grafton and Nicolas Clemenzi, the squad was prepared to go into battle in the arcade. Connor Flynn also proved to be an exceptional dancer, showcasing his exquisite dance moves in the popular “Dance Dance Revolution” game. He took down both counselors Jeremy and Carolyn, as well as the majority of campers who stepped up to take him on.
After a day full of games, prizes, and even an all-you-can eat buffet, 6th grade collectively agreed that this field trip would be hard to beat. Following such an amazing day was even more excitement, as “The Squad” finally got their first chance at swimming at the Haverhill high school pool. The campers were beyond excited for their chance to escape the heat and have some fun. Brandon Lee was one of the first to take on the daunting diving board, mastering both “The Superman” dive and the front flip. He truly blew his comrades away as he entered the water with such finesse and grace. Week 4 also brought one of the most intense events that GSRP has to hold, the Baseball tournament. Teams were made up early within the week and most campers from the 6th grade squad decided to participate. All-star fielder Payton Walsh was ready to go up against her brother Colin on the opposing team first thing Thursday morning. This week also included the beloved Spinners game, where campers got to see future Boston Red Sox prospects out on the field. Camper Owen Raftery was hounding the opposing team as he started a “Lets go Spinners” chant that echoed throughout the ballpark. This was Camp Day at the spinners, where summer camps from all over the state came to cheer on the home team, but none of these camps were as well-behaved and spirited as GSRP. Lastly, the 6th grade squad had taken another win against the 7th graders in dodgeball, an act that made Aidan Wilhite shed tears of joy. Week 4 was another awesome week for G7! We started our week with a trip to water games. Campers had a blast going down the water slides and soaking each other with buckets. On Monday, G7 also enjoyed a special show, featuring Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift! Many of our campers danced along, but no one was more enthusiastic than Ryan Clunie and Michael Cho. Both boys were invited onstage to dance, and they had a great time. We also had a fun field trip this week to the Lowell Spinners' game. G7 had a blast watching the game and participating in different contests at the park, such as trying to catch free t-shirts!
On Thursday, many of our campers participated in the baseball tournament. Many of our campers played in the game and several supported their peers by cheering them on. We ended the day with a free choice block, during which campers had the opportunity to pick where they wanted to play. Week 4 ended with a visit to the Haverhill High pool. G7 had fun diving off the diving board and playing volleyball. It was another excellent week for G7 and we look forward to week 5. Week 4 is off to a great start! We are sad to be missing some of our friends who aren’t signed up this week, but we are so happy to have three campers back who were missing last week. Each camper brings something a little bit different to our group, so we definitely miss them all a lot on days when they aren’t here.
We had a great time at Dave and Buster’s. Unlimited video game play and a buffet line with all of the kid friendly food you can imagine was bound to be a big hit. As always, water games was a favorite on Friday – especially since it’s been so hot lately. Third grade could be a little bit better off, though, if they remembered to pack their bathing suits and towels in their bags every day. Nobody wants to be a soggy camper after water games! This week, as you may have heard, we had a special visit from two very interesting guests. Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift came to perform some songs for us on Monday. Some of the kids went up and danced like Michael Jackson, and one even had a moonwalk contest with him! He also had the counselors go up and do a goofy dance in front of the whole camp. It was a lot of fun. Today we had our field trip to go see the Lowell Spinners baseball team. It was summer camp day at the Spinners, so there were tons of kids at the stadium. It was a really fun atmosphere – there was a funny dance by one of the mascots, or a visit from Mario and Luigi between each inning. The kids all left with free passes to see another Spinners game any time this summer if they wanted to go back. Tomorrow is superhero day, and the kids already have some great plans for costumes. If their spirit the last couple weeks has been any indication, we are in for another week of great outfits! Between the super heroes and the pizza hot lunch, tomorrow will definitely be a good day. We are looking forward to another awesome week in grade three! We are officially half way through the summer! It has flown by! Grade 4A has been having so much fun! On Monday, we went on our weekly trip to the Haverhill High Pool. It was a great day for swimming because it was super hot and muggy. On Tuesday, Nolan was out at his college orientation. We were happy to welcome a special substitute counselor, Bobby!
Today we are headed to the Lowell Spinners game and the campers are very excited! To go along with the baseball field trip this week, we are also having our annual baseball tournament. All the teams had practice on Tuesday. The semi-finals are scheduled on Thursday and the finals are on Friday. Tomorrow is theme day, which is Superheroes. We're excited to see what next week will bring! Group 1A started off the week with swimming at Haverhill High. We do this every Monday morning, and it has become a weekly favorite! Erica and Maddie were so impressed that al 7 campers were dressed in their bating suits when they arrived at camp! Doing this gives the kiddos more time in the pool since they only have to change once. Everyone is doing a great job swimming and some even showed Erica their best cannonball!
After we got back to camp, we had a surprise appearance from Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift! Michael had some great dance moves, and both he and Taylor Swift had some campers go up onstage and dance with them. 1A was in the front, so they were picked often! The campers seemed to be really impressed by the performers. We are going to a baseball game this week, and everyone is looking forward to it. It is going to be to the Lowell Spinners. We are all looking forward to a great week. Thursday is theme day, and it is Superhero week! All campers and staff are encouraged to dress like a superhero so we can win the prize for most participation. Erica and Maddie want to end this blog on a good note. We have both been impressed by the great behavior from 1A this week! Keep it up kiddos! It's been a hot week so far at GSRP! Week 4 has kicked off with a bang for group 2B, with both swimming and a concert! The kids obviously had a blast getting out of the heat, splashing around in the pool, and soaking the counselors! It was so much fun the counselor Jimmy from group 1B got a little too excited and fell in the pool! The laughter coming from 2B was contagious, so I guess you could say swimming was a great success this week!
Once second grade got back to camp, the fun did not stop, as Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson decided to make an appearance! The kids were all belting out the lyrics to all the Taylor Swift songs, singing "Shake it Off " and "22!" Some of the kids, including Cami Chisolm and Evie Zappala, went up to dance with Taylor! Even if all the kids didn't get a chance to sing and dance with Taylor, they did get a chance to learn some dance moves from Michael Jackson! The staff even went up with Michael to dance for the kids! So as you can tell, Week 4 has been a very exciting week, and the excitement has yet to end. On Wednesday, second grade will get to experience a real life baseball game at the Lowell Spinners! In the meantime, the kids have a great time playing with Scottie and Sabrina! Max Coppola even got the chance to embarrass Scottie by beating him in a jump rope contest! After that defeat, Grade 2 got a special treat, getting to go to water games for and extra block, escaping the heat! It's saf3e to say week 4 is just going to get better and better, possibly becoming the most memorable week of GSRP! Last week at summer camp, your first graders had the times of their lives at Jay Gee's, then again
at Dave and Buster's. At Jay Gee's, we got to play mini golf and had so much fun. Later that day, Jimmy and Allie took the kids on the go-karts, but since they were too short to ride alone, we took turns with each child so they could experience the thrill of go-karts: each of them LOVED it!! We were also given a nice sweet treat at the end of the field trip, ice cream! The next field trip, also during week 3, was to the huge arcade!!! Your kids had a great time playing a variety of video games!! Last week, in the project room, we got to make towers out of newspaper, and it was a blast! This week we are overjoyed to be going to the Lowell Spinners game tomorrow!!!! Everyone is looking forward to watching the baseball game. Yesterday, we got to watch a few “stars” perform lip syncing acts. There was one guy as Michael Jackson, and there was a Taylor Swift performer as well. Some of the first graders even thought performers were the real stars. It was a great way to end our Monday afternoon. At some points, all of the first graders were asked to come sing and dance with the impersonators, and they weren’t shy at all!! They showed everyone their best dance moves as well as their beautiful singing voices. Jimmy and Allie, as well as your kids, are so sad to say that there are only a few more weeks left of camp, but we are happy to say that the next few weeks are going to be incredible!! Grade 2A is excited to begin another wonderful week at GSRP! Last week we enjoyed two field trips, going to Jay Gee’s on Tuesday and Dave & Buster’s on Wednesday. Jay Gee’s included a batting cage, mini golf, bumper cars, an arcade and ice cream. Dave & Buster’s was a large arcade with great food and lots of fun! Theme day was occupation day, and although we didn’t win, the group sure showed their camp spirit, dressing up in all sorts of occupations. In art, we all made tags to hang on our bedroom doors, and in project room we made I-Spy bottles with rice and small objects. This Monday, we had special guests,Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson, who put on a great show for us and got everyone up and dancing.
This week, we have an exciting field trip planned, going to see the Lowell Spinners on Wednesday. On Thursday we have theme day, which this week is super-heroes, and we hope to have all the kids looking heroic! Today (Tuesday), we have our first block of water games… finally! The kids are very excited to be able to cool down on such a hot day. Hot lunch this week is on Thursday, and the kids will be enjoying pizza! Please continue to send your kids with a water bottle and a bathing suit everyday to camp. We can’t believe it is already week 4, and we are excited to have a great time in the last half of the summer! |
