Due to the number increase within the grade three level, the campers were split into two groups, one being 3A and the other 3B. The transition into two groups was surprisingly very smooth, as the campers are still together during periods throughout the day and adjusted well. We are Sabrina and Ryan, and we are lucky enough to be the counselors for group 3B. Both of us have enjoyed working with the campers so far, and even though it has only been a few days, we know that this is a great sign for the rest of the summer!
Sabrina and Ryan both attend Pentucket Regional High School during the year. Ryan is involved in football, basketball, and baseball which makes him a great fit for the more active campers who can't get enough of the outdoor activities, and Sabrina works with a few of the campers the Bagnall after school program, making it easier for her to connect with the kids and know exactly how to communicate with them specifically. Sabrina is a second-year counselor and Ryan is in his first year after being a CIT for years at GSRP. We are all really excited to have Ryan on our staff and he is working really well with the kids. They really look forward to seeing him everyday!
This past Monday, the campers walked into camp not knowing what to expect as it is always nerve-racking to be in a new environment. New counselors, new kids, and a new schedule can cause a lot of stess, but the smiles on their faces became really evident throughout the day as they grew more comfortable. As the counselors, we tried to make the day as fun as possible, bringing them to different activities like Arts & Crafts and Sports & Games. As we try to keep things rolling, the kids are really the ones who keep us going, always thinking of new and creative games that we can enjoy as a group. One of the favorite activities for "G3B" on Monday was Water Games where they could cool down on the waterslide after a hot day in the sun. They all kept asking us, from THE START of the day, if it was time to put their bathing suits on yet! The day ran extremely smoothly, and Tuesday went as if we had been at camp for weeks as everyone started to make new friendships and come together as a group.
We are looking forward to working with these kids, as they are going to be the ones who make this summer enjoyable!
