Week 4 was also the first week that we went on TWO field trips; Salem Willows and Newburyport Whale Watch. The Salem Willows field trip on Tuesday was one that the kids really enjoyed. We arrived in Salem, MA, and each kid received tokens and started playing the arcade games. Right off the bat, we had many big winners. Tickets were flying out of the games in increments ranging from 5 – 2,000. The BIG WINNER of the day was CIT Lucas W., who reeled in 2,000 tickets from one game! The kids also got to ride on the bumper cars after lunch before they headed back to the arcade to exchange their tickets for prizes. Then we returned to the buses to head back to camp.
On Thursday, we made our way to Newburyport for a whale watch! The kids were all very excited for this trip in the hope that they would get to see some of the ocean’s largest inhabitants. We boarded the Captain’s Lady II and headed out on the high seas, and it didn’t take too long until we saw our first whale! We weren't able to get very close to this whale, but the second whale we saw gave us all the entertainment we needed for the day. This whale was a Humpback, and during our stay, it got as close as 15 feet away from the boat. This whale had all of the kid’s attention and didn’t seem to care that we were interrupting its relaxation period. Counselor Ryan, with the help of Ms. K, took what is believed to be, the first ever “whelfie.” (A selfie with a whale in the background)
You can take a look at the pictures from the whale watch on the facebook page and the blog! Thanks for a great 4th week and we look forward to seeing you back for week 5!
